Shark attack kills American tourist in the Bahamas
Victim was snorkeling near Green Cay when she was attacked
Police have identified the victim as 58-year-old Carole Anne Burke from Pennsylvania.
Burke was on a cruise ship that had stopped in the Bahamas when she went snorkeling near Green Cay. She was attacked by a shark and died from her injuries.
This is the second fatal shark attack in the Bahamas this year. In May, a 21-year-old American woman was killed by a shark while paddleboarding in the Exuma Cays.
The Bahamas is a popular tourist destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. However, there have been a number of shark attacks in the Bahamas in recent years.
In 2018, a 23-year-old American woman was killed by a shark while swimming in the waters off Rose Island.
In 2019, a 60-year-old American man was killed by a shark while snorkeling in the waters off Grand Bahama Island.
The Bahamas government has taken steps to reduce the risk of shark attacks, including increasing patrols and banning swimming in certain areas.
